BT-93W (Ethylene Bis-Tetrabromophthalimide): Applications and Specifications
Choosing Flame Retardants for Polypropylene (PP)
What is FR-245?
FR-245 is 2,4,6-tris(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy)-1,3,5-triazine, CAS 25713-60-4, formula C21H6Br9N3O3. It contains about 67% bromine and is supplied as a white powder. The triazine core gives good thermal stability, and the molecule melts at around 230 C, so it blends into the polymer during compounding instead of staying as a separate filler.
Applications
FR-245 is used mainly in styrenics: HIPS and ABS for electronics housings, office equipment and appliance parts, and PC/ABS blends. It is also used in some PBT grades. Like other brominated additives it is normally paired with antimony trioxide.
Why buyers use it
Compared with many brominated additives, FR-245 has little effect on melt flow and impact strength in HIPS and ABS, and it has good light stability and low blooming, which matters for light-coloured housings. It is a common choice when a compounder needs UL 94 V-0 in ABS without losing too much toughness.
